The Assistant Buyer is responsible for aiding the Buyer in the selection of merchandise and the planning process for the department. This position will act as a liaison between all cross functional areas, and will have a demonstrated ability to understand intradepartmental connections and communications. The Assistant Buyer will possess clear communication skills and will develop strong working relationships with the Buyer they support, as well as other members of the merchandising team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Will be responsible for sample prep – incoming/returning to vendor.
  • Maintains and organizes sample area, including shoot samples.
  • Compiles selling information in report format, identify best sellers/ poor sellers.
  • Assures all issues pertaining to catalog copy are followed through to completion.
  • Creates and maintains fact sheets for IP and Copywriters, ensuring accuracy.
  • Prepares spreads and samples for turnover meeting.
  • Ensures all styles and their colorways are represented in each book as planned.
  • Collects catalog swipes to represent product trends, color, and creative inspiration.
  • Attends fittings; provides input in Buyers absence.
  • Conducts competitive analysis seasonally to be aware of trends that translate to our customers.
  • Assists Buyer in the selection of merchandise using analytically based recommendations.
  • Participate with Buyer in catalog reviews, including the development of indicated actions.
  • Supports Buyer in reaching all time and action and calendar goals.
  • Attends and participates in Product Development Meetings.
  • Assists with visual merchandising for website, review website weekly to ensure accuracy and relevancy of product placement.

This position is based in our Hingham, MA corporate offices. Location easily accessible from the Commuter Boat.
